mind your caput

Reach up with a hand,
And push off with a foot.
If you fall down,
mind your caput.

“Climbing is quite easy!”
I heard him exclaim,
“These cracks and fissures
all know my name.”

The voice came from a climber
As grand as these steps.
Capaneus the warrior,
how could I forget?

Astonished I watched,
slipping in the gravel and sand,
Capeneus upward bound,
Posting his climb on Instagram.

While I was distracted,
and looking around,
I slipped carelessly
And fell down to the ground.

Dizzying jealousy
Is a merry-go-round.
If you stay on long enough,
you’re sure to fall down.

Falling is putting
yourself in a place
you may not have been to
And you may not escape.

Reach up with a hand,
and push off with a foot
If you fall down,
Mind your caput.

MAH.
